About Us

Carol Hlengiwe Koloane - Ceo Thuthuka Community Development Organisation

Kindness Towards Humanity

We Care!

We aim to assist previously disadvantaged communities in South Africa alleviate poverty by responding to each population’s unique needs.

The Thuthuka Community Development Organisation has been established by Carol Hlengiwe Koloane in the Pietermaritzburg region to pursue sustainable economic development and, ultimately, independence from government welfare and subsidies.

Thuthuka Community Development Organisation focuses on those who lie on periphery of KZN’s financial system, targeting entrepreneurs who are economically active in rural, semi-rural & township areas. The concept of a development corporation arose in conjunction with the establishment of the National Development Plan (“NDP”) in 2013.

Carol Hlengiwe Koloane who established Thuthuka Community Development Organisation was aware of the urgent need to focus on and stimulate economic activity in the region and Thuthuka Community Development Organisation grew out of this thinking. The concept is based on the mission statement of “Give every child a chance” and “Local jobs for local people”.

Thuthuka Community Development Organisation members realise that the future for the children of the region depends heavily on the creation of jobs, income and career paths. To do this, Thuthuka Community Development Organisation will seek to create jobs and income by owning and operating profitable businesses (either in its own right or in joint venture), stimulating economic development and having effective linkage to government programs that assist in this objective.

Services

Thuthuka Community Development Organisation recognises that no two communities’ development needs are the same and has developed a standard set of interventions called “4 Point Care System” which seek to address the common and pivotal needs that need to be addressed form community to community.

The 4 Point Care System is based on the belief that even though communities maybe different when it comes to issues of development plaguing each one and that a “one size fits all” approach wouldn’t necessarily work, there are however common issues that can be grouped and dealt with at varying degrees in all communities. It with this thought in mind that Thuthuka Community Development Organisation devised the following points of care: Community Care System Community Development System Information Dissemination Engaged and Growing Association.

The major premise of the programme is that micro-credit is the catalyst to achieve family financial security, which in turn can lead to improvement in all quality of life indicators

Sebenza Kanzima association aims to educate women, especially in rural areas about sound economic principles such as budgeting and saving, and to encourage women to become economically self-sustaining. The women are all members of the association, but also make up smaller savings groups where they receive training and participate in educational programmes.

Rural Financial Services & Investments

(Kings Africa Economic Development) – Access to rural financial services is vital to improve small-holder agriculture and create rural off-farm incomes, especially for women and youth. Help partners expand services to rural clients and develop the innovative financial services they need. Off-farm incomes are increasingly important to reduce rural poverty, create opportunities for women and youth, stem migration to overcrowded cities, and limit pressure on land resources. In almost all cases, these populations have no access to financial services to support these initiatives. Save Future Africans Network will provide services to micro, small and medium businesses in rural value chains; we will achieve this through partnerships with providers who are eager to expand their services to rural clients and develop innovative, high quality rural, agricultural, and value chain financial services and products that combine farm and non-farm components to develop the rural economy.

Deposit Mobilization

(Kings Co-Banks) – Savings is critical to sustain households, small businesses and communities- especially for the poor who lack safety nets. Help microfinance partners to develop savings programs and transform into regulated banks. Savings is critical to the economic sustainability of individual households, small businesses, and to the community’s financial stability.

Deposits also represent a diversified, local, and stable funding base for the financial institutions. Save Future Africans Network intends to be a leader in this area and help poor entrepreneurs access a full range of financial products and services.

Youth & Financial Services

(Kings Guarantees) – The South African youth population is growing, restless and often unemployed with very little access to real opportunities. We will create innovative youth entrepreneurship products and help financial services providers respond to this growing market. South Africa has a growing unemployed youth population, and at the same time, there are national shortages of skilled workers. In fact, 31 percent of employers have been found to have difficulty filling positions due to the lack of suitable talent. In addition, youth repeatedly express interest in beginning their own enterprises rather than working in underpaid positions with poor opportunities for advancement.
